Make a list of
what you need to do, and when you need to do it. |

and/or rental truck. Check
the limits of insurance they offer. |
 |
Arrange
for packing materials and assistance for moving furniture and
appliances. |
 |
Notify
post office of the
change of address at least two weeks prior to moving. You can extend
the

postcards to friends & creditors. |
 |
Notify
the Ministry of Transportation for driver's license, and vehicle permit. |
 |
Cancel
old insurance and arrange for your new insurance. |
 |
Arrange
for new doctors

Update or
open new bank
accounts and arrange to transfer the funds and contents of your safety

 |
Arrange
for transfer of information with clubs, churches and other
organizations
and notify all delivery services. |
 |
Contact
schools
and arrange for transfer of student records. |
 |
All
your valuables should be carried personally or special arrangements

Pack a bag

you will need during your move such as: medications, money, telephone,
checkbook, keys, map, food, snacks, drinks, toilet paper, towels, soap,
pen, eyeglasses, pet supplies, utility knife, children's
games and other items you may need. Keep these items separated from
those
that are to be loaded onto the moving truck. |
 |
Pack
suitcases for the trip
to your new home and put in extra clothes for emergencies. |
 |
Make
sure everything is packed carefully. Mark cartons on top and on
the side for easy identification. |
 |
Make
a list of all necessary phone numbers and put them by telephone. |
 |
Pick up
all personal items
at local businesses (dry cleaning, film, storage). |
 |
Let a
close friend or family
member know your travel route and schedule. |
 |
Defrost
the refrigerator
and freezer so they can dry at least 24 hours. |
 |
Read
all utility meters (gas, water, hydro). |
 |
Check the
attic, basement,
garage, laundry room, inside closets and cabinets for forgotten items
and
leave
keys with appropriate person. |
